Hello, and welcome to The Gracefully Aging Woman! My name is Heather Kay and I am journeying through midlife and beyond. In a world that idolizes youth and beauty, we have to make a conscious choice to age gracefully. I love health and nutrition, and I don’t want to look any older than I need to, but I am committed to embracing the season that God has me in. And I hope you will too.
A little about myself, I am the wife to an amazing and godly man, mother to 9, grandmother to 4. My children span 24 years and my youngest child is younger than my oldest grandchild. Yes, we are a little different in the world I move and breathe in, and that’s ok.
Like many of you, I am seeing those wrinkles emerging, and I am still coloring my hair. At some point, I will quit and embrace the gray, but for now, I am blondish (because that blends with gray). The weight is harder to keep off and it takes more work to stay strong.
This is a season of letting go and of moving on. For me, I have my feet in two worlds, that of raising littles and that of launching young adults, of keeping up with child rearing, meal prep, and managing a home, and that of becoming friends with my older children, letting them go and being a grandparent. However, in this space, I will mostly address the “normal” midlife issues. There are a lot of great “mommy” blogs out there, but not so many addressing the issues of “the gracefully aging woman.”
I hope that you will find plenty of encouragement and community in this space. Kick your feet up and stay awhile.
