Welcome to The Gracefully Aging Woman!
This is a safe place to explore the process of aging gracefully. As we age, it is easy to question who we are, what we have accomplished, and how we want to spend the next 20 years of our lives. As women, we have the added pressure to look as young as possible, deal with hormonal changes that wreak havoc with our bodies, and adjust to life as we let go of our grown children who are now creating their own, separate lives.
So many questions arise that we don’t have answers to. And all too often, we don’t have access to older women that are willing to share their experience and wisdom. Also, our world has changed so much in the last 20-30 years, there are many circumstances that our parents just didn’t have to face.
I am no expert! And I do NOT want to ignore the great wisdom of the women who have gone before us. So, in this space, I will endeavor to draw from women all along the journey. I also want to hear from those who are just discovering the gray hairs appearing; what are their fears, how are their bodies changing, what trials do they face in this new season?
Most of all, I want to explore the many issues we will be discussing here from a biblical perspective. What does the Bible have to say on any given topic? For example, our culture tends to idolize youth and disdain the elderly. The Bible is very clear that our elders are to be honored. It is easy for us to reject aging as unwanted, but we must learn to embrace it as something beautiful and glorious without “giving in” to being old. What in the world does that look like?!!!
Some of the topics we will be looking at include:
- How to deal with changing hormones.
- Maintaining strong and healthy bodies throughout the aging process.
- Perspectives on beauty as older women.
- Letting go of our older children, while still supporting them and staying connected.
- Caring for our aging parents.
- Marriage during a transitional period of life.
- New aches and pains that are related to the aging process (but not necessarily inevitable).
- Various lifestyle topics as related to this new season such as organization, finances, and leisure.
My desire is for this space to be a place where women can come together to learn and grow as we age, share our frustrations and discouragements, and ultimately come away stronger, wiser and more full of life.
Woman of God, you are beautiful and capable. God has made you enough.
